What motivates you to do your best?
There are a multitude of things that encourage me to give my best effort in anything that I do. From a young age, I was taught the importance of taking initiative and pride in my work, something that impacts every little thing that I do. I strive every day to be the best version of myself and constantly try to focus on areas of myself that need improvement. The fact that I can always be doing better in certain areas of my life is what causes me to work on these aspects of myself to get them to where I want them to be. As I got older, while my parents still encouraged me to be my best, I really started to set some higher expectations for myself. I would not allow myself to earn anything less than an A- in any of my classes and because of the goals I had set, and I had started improving academically. Now I realize that this kind of mindset applies to everything. Raising expectations for myself and setting goals that require hard work to reach are the best ways that I motivate myself to accomplish things.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?
I would describe myself as creative, passionate, and curious. I have always liked to make things of my own. With age, I have found more outlets for doing this. As a kid, I would always look for spare things around the house and try to piece them together to make something of my own. As I grew older, I started to become more interested in drawing and used that as a way of expressing myself. Now, I look mostly upon music to bring out my creative side, as I enjoy playing music and even making music of my own. Without my creativity, I would never be as passionate of a person. My passion for learning and improving at things is largely fueled by my imagination, as I frequently try to challenge the scope of my knowledge by pushing myself to come up with my own ideas. Ultimately, though, it all leads back to me being curious. My curiosity about the world around me is what usually allows me to obtain an interest in science or math, which then lead to more specific interests like the ones I have for astronomy and architectural design. My life has revolved around these three characteristics of me and I would never have been the same without them.

What was your proudest moment?
My proudest moment was when I had received an email from the University of Michigan and saw that I had been admitted into the school. Previously, I had received academic awards and recognition for my hard work in school. Despite this, I still had not felt like my dedication to school had amounted to much. However, when I saw that I was accepted into my dream school, the one I had wanted to go to since I was just a young kid, I was ecstatic. All of my hard work had finally paid off, and I have never been more proud of myself than at that point in time.

What has been your most challenging experience?
The biggest obstacle I have faced at any point in my life was when I had first moved to South Lyon. South Lyon was very different than Dearborn and it was not easy for a quiet kid like me to fit in and make friends. The first couple years were very rough and a period that I would regard as some of the worst times of my life. However, I realized that I needed to change and let this situation affect me for the better. At the start of high school, I started to work harder in school, improving my GPA from middle school. Additionally, I began to become more social and make more friends. Year by year, I have gotten better at doing all of these things and I can now say that the biggest obstacle in my life has now become an advantageous experience that will make future situations where I will have to adjust to change much easier.

What's the most important thing you have learned in school?
School has allowed me to gain lots of knowledge across many different subjects, but some of the non-curricular lessons I have learned have proven to be the most significant. Most importantly, school has taught me how to be a better person. Learning and socializing are essential parts of school, but school is truly a great character developing exercise. By working in groups and teams I have learned how to cooperate with others as well as introduce my own thoughts in ideas in a place where they will be accepted. Through my experiences volunteering through clubs at school, I have become more grateful for everything that I have and have learned to use the opportunities that I have to benefit others who are not as fortunate. Many of my teachers have served as great role models for me and people whose behavior I often try to emulate. I might not be a perfect person, but what I have learned from school has certainly has made me a better one.

What is one area of your life that you feel needs improvement?
Although I am very happy with the person that I am, I absolutely have aspects of my life that I need to improve. I have always been a more reserved person and in recent years I think I have made significant progress in becoming more friendly and social. However, I still think I can get better in this area. On the outside, I appear very calm and laid back, and some of the time I am. Other times, though, I tend to hide behind my collected demeanor because I am often afraid of expressing my true feelings about something. I feel like this is holding me back from reaching my full potential as a person and that I will need to work hard to become more comfortable with letting people see the person that I truly am.
